For years, I always purchased products that were recommended to me by my friends. While many of them were lovely, year after year I still felt like none of these products delivered exactly what I was looking for. As my love for beauty products grew, I began realizing my needs were far different from those around me. So, for the last of the Back to Basics series, we're going to be assessing your beauty needs.
When searching for skin care and makeup products, look for key words to help identify products that will best suit your Skin Type.
Moisturizing, Hydrating, Luminizing, Glow, Radiance
Matte, Mattifying, Oil-Free, Long Wear, Waterproof
Which issue do you find yourself always annoyed with? Is it the dry patches or oily t-zone? Start by focusing on your biggest concern and look for the relative key words above. I recommend having the consultants give you samples of both and try them out in your natural environment. If you find you like the more moisturizing products, stick within the realm of the dry skin category. Opposingly, if you liked the mattifying samples, look for products that target oily skin.
Often times you can get away with either product (or both!) Which look do you prefer? The glowing, natural look of moisturizing products? Or the stunning porcelain look of matte products?
The most important question to ask yourself at this point is what are you looking to get out of your beauty products?
- How much time are you willing to spend on your skin care routine?
- How much time are you willing to spend on your makeup routine?
- Are you looking to even out your skin tone?
- Change the texture of your skin?
- Are you trying to conceal? If so, what? Redness? Pigmentation? Acne? Dark Circles?
- Are you wanting a natural look or more of a flawless full coverage?
- Do you experience any congestion or flaking with products?
Once you have completed the assessment of your skin, you are now ready for the fun part! Finding the perfect beauty products for your skin! "May the odds be ever in your favor!"
Make sure you always keep YOUR needs at the top of your mind. Just because your mothers best friend swears by a product doesn't mean it'll work for you, especially if you have completely different skin. Check back for products I recommend for each skin type.
